Classic Hymer B544 (1988) – 2.5D | Extensively renovated & modernised
With a heavy heart, we are selling our 1988 Hymer B544. Over the past period, this motorhome has been thoroughly upgraded both technically and cosmetically with an enormous amount of love, care and craftsmanship.
Reason for sale: The project is more or less complete for me, and I am eager to start a new project.
Approximately € 11,000 has demonstrably been invested in high-quality parts and upgrades, excluding over 200 hours of personal labour. The motorhome combines the distinctive vintage Hymer charm with the comfort and reliability of modern technology.
It has already passed the ultimate test: we recently drove it to and through Switzerland. It handled inclines, motorways and mountains excellently. It is 100% holiday-ready and ready to drive away!
IMPORTING INTO BELGIUM (VERY EASY)
Documents: Full Dutch registration certificate available. Importing into Belgium is administratively very straightforward via the customs office (VNS 705 sticker costs only € 0.03).
Classic vehicle (O-plate): Built in 1988, so it immediately qualifies in Belgium for the favourable classic vehicle scheme (30+ years), with very low road tax and insurance.
Ready for inspection: Thanks to the thorough technical overhaul and the valid Dutch roadworthiness inspection (valid until June 2028!), the motorhome is in perfect technical condition to be inspected in Belgium straight away.
🔧 ENGINEERING, MAINTENANCE & SPECIALIST All technical maintenance was professionally carried out by the specialists at Classic Car Service Twente:
Engine: Fiat Ducato 2.5 Diesel (indestructible engine, ± 220,000 km) with 5-speed gearbox.
Professionally serviced mechanically: Full technical inspection, major service, new belts (V-belt & multi-rib belt), new accelerator cable fitted, new valve cover gasket and fresh fluids.
Advanced Engine Insulation: The engine bay has been insulated with a high-quality combination of professional damping and soundproofing materials (Vibraflex BS80, Merfocell PU40S, Merfom GW35 and Acusticab). This results in significantly less engine noise and a wonderfully quiet cab while driving!
Electric starting & charging: Reconditioned starter motor and reconditioned alternator fitted (starts immediately, runs smoothly and charges excellently).
Safety: Brakes completely renewed all around (including new brake discs, brake drums, wheel cylinders, brake hoses/lines and fresh brake fluid). New accelerator cable and new starter battery. As Good As New (ZGAN) tyres.
Technical inspection: Dutch-approved until 9 June 2028 (subject to an official random inspection at the last test and passed with flying colours).
Driving licence: Can be driven with a standard category B driving licence.

Renewed walls & ceilings: All walls and ceilings have been completely relined with sleek felt panelling (creating a fresh, spacious and modern feel while also providing extra thermal and sound insulation).
Curtains, floor & benches: New flooring laid, new roller blinds and new regular curtains installed, benches professionally cleaned and fitted with new buttons.

Large roof window renewed: The large roof window has been completely replaced.
100% Watertight: All roof windows resealed with butyl sealant. Bodywork and rear end fitted with fresh butyl sealant all around.
Exterior & Bike Rack: Awning replaced, upgraded rear bike rack (with the complete internal wooden frame on the inside of the rear wall also renewed for an extremely strong mounting).
Bodywork inspection: The bodywork was assessed by Classic Car Service Twente and rated as 'very good and solid'.

I have rebuilt this Hymer with great pleasure and love, and made wonderful memories with it. It is a fantastic, reliable motorhome that guarantees many more years of carefree travel and freedom. The motorhome is stored dry and 100% ready to drive away for its new owner.
Naturally, a motorhome that is nearly 40 years old has signs of use consistent with its age, but you will rarely find one in this technical and cosmetic condition!
The coffee is ready, and a comprehensive viewing including a test drive is of course possible for serious interest.
